Definitions
of Competitors: All competitors must possess either
a day pass, or a weekend package in order to compete.
Definitions
of Divisions:
Amateur: A dancer 18 yr. and over who has
not received compensation of any kind for competitions. You
must not be a full or part-time dance instructor of any style
of dance. (You are considered an instructor if you have received
compensation of any kind for dance instruction). Trophies
awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.
Professional: Dancers 18 yr. and over who
receives money for teaching. This division is for the experienced
competitor andthe professional instructors. For the purpose
of this convention, experienced competitors is defined as
anyone who competes in an advanced level or above division
in four (4) or more competitions a year. Cash prizes and trophies
will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places.
Pro/Am: Selection of category - Novice, Intermediate,
or Advanced - is based on the level of the amateur and is
at thediscretion of the competitors.
Silver Division: 55 years or older.
Junior Division: (If available) for competitors
under 15.

Definitions
for Dances:
Hustle: A dance form using and combining
the creative elements of circular rotation, slotted movement,
elliptical rotation, traveling movement, visual lead and follow
within the rhythm and timing of the dance.
Just Dance: When a competition is designated just dance, no
obvious costumes, song specific routines, entrances or exits,
lifts, aerials, or drops of any kind are permitted.
Pro
Am: These are just dance competitions with the exception
that costumes are allowed.
Jack
and Jill: These are just dance competitions. No costumes
allowed. Dancers will draw for partners or have partners selected
randomly. Music will be randomly selected and dancers will
dance to one slow and one fast Hustle song.
Theatre
Arts: A minimum of fifty percent (50%) Hustle is
required with the remaining time used for side-by-side routines,
lifts, drops, aerials and adagios
Classic Divisions: This year we have Classic divisions in
Hustle, Salsa, and West Coast Swing. These will be solo routines
that must consist of a minimum of fifty percent (50%) that
is clearly recognizable as the style of dance chosen and the
balance may be a combination of side by side, leaps, jumps
and drops. No lifts or aerials allowed.
Open Dance - Pro AM: Listed
on the registration form as Showcase, these are solo routines
and are open to Hustle or any other dance style. They must
consist of a minimum of fifty percent (50%) of that dance
but may include anything else in the rest of the routine,
including lifts, aerials, shines, leaps, jumps, and drops.
Open Dance - Amateur: Listed on the registration
form as Theater Arts, these are solo routines and are open
to Hustle or any other dance style. They must consist of a
minimum of fifty percent (50%) of that dance but may include
anything else in the rest of the routine, including lifts,
aerials, shines, leaps, jumps, and drops.
Open Dance - Professional: This is divided
into three events - Theater Arts Hustle which must contain
fifty percent (50%) Hustle dancing but may include anything
else in the rest of the routine, including lifts, aerials,
shines, leaps, jumps, and drops. ____________________________________________________________________________________________
Cabaret which may not include hustle, but
is open to any other theatrical presentation of dancing. ____________________________________________________________________________________________
Showcase West Coast Swing This will follow
NASDE rules as seen on their website: NASDE.com.

Absolutely no private filming, video cameras,
photography and/or sales of videos/tapes will be allowed at
any time without written permission of the NYHC organizers.
This includes: Workshops, Contests, and General Dancing. ____________________________________________________________________________________________
General
Dance Rules:
1.
Competitions adhere to International Hustle Dance Association
rules.
2. Competitors and attendees must have a day or weekend
pass and are required to fill out a registration form and
sign a liability waiver compliance.
3. All competitors will receive a number to be used for
the entire weekend and will be responsible to keep that
number.
4. Pros may compete with no more than two Amateurs in any
one level.
5. All competitors consent to release the use of their photographs,
biographies, and names, for any video or television footage
for sale.
6. All heat competitors will dance to two songs of two minutes
each – one slow and one fast, to be selected by New
York Hustle Congress (NYHC).
7. All solo competitors will supply their own music on CD.
8. The minimum/maximum time allowed for all solo competitors
includes entrance and exit, with or without music. Solo
routines should be no less than 2½ minutes and no
more than 3 ½ minutes.
9. If there are fewer than three couples, the NYHC reserves
the right to cancel or combine divisions.
10. The head judge and NYHC committee will have final say
on all discrepancies. All questions and/or disputes should
be brought to the attention of the head judge in writing
(NHYC will supply a form for this purpose, if needed).
